ML-1 Railway track construction to be started in 2018

Islamabad – The federal government has decided to launch practically Peshawar to Karachi Line-1 Railway Track under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during the current financial year 2018. China for this project has expressed consent for the long-term loan on easy and soft conditions. 

Ministry for Railways has feasibility plan for ML-1 railways track from Peshawar to Karachi and the started work after final designing, which would be sent to the ministry for planning in few days for the final approval, hoping that the ministry would approve the project within a couple of weeks. Soon after tenders will be issued for the construction companies  

According to the sources, railways ministry officials have had the very successful meeting regarding railways projects in CPEC, after which the ministry has issued directions for working on the PC-1 track. Sources said that Chinese construction companies would show their interest taking responsibility for building the ML-1 track. 

The sources regarding ML-1 said that three packages have been made for the phase-1 under CPEC; in package one railway track from Rohri to Nawab Shah and up gradation of 160 KM Multan-Lahore track. In package two, up gradation of Walton Academy of Pakistan railways and establishing new track from Lahore to Kakuwal which would cause reducing 52 KM distance from Rawalpindi to Lahore. 

In package three, there would be doubling of the track from Peshawar-Rawalpindi, and construction of the dry port in Havelian. 

According to the sources, in the recent JCC meeting, Chinese officials gave the green signal for conferring loan on easy terms for the ML-1 track. However, the federal government has decided that practical work would be started on ML-1 track by June 2018.
